The Page County Chimney Monument stands as a memorial to the families and communities who once lived in the Blue Ridge Mountains before the establishment of Shenandoah National Park. The stone chimney represents the homes that dotted the mountain landscape and serves as a reminder of the people who farmed the land, built communities, and created lasting traditions in the region. As one of the few surviving symbols of these former settlements, the monument honors the residents whose lives were affected by displacement and preserves the memory of the communities that once called these mountains home.
